WHEATLAND — Since 1971 the Jenkins family has operated Jenkins Auto Body in Wheatland: a staple in the community for body work and paint after accidents, fender-benders, acts of nature and/or restoration.

WHEATLAND — Just before the Christmas holiday break, a public evening performance by the Wheatland Middle School drama club was cancelled by the school’s administrators. “The Bullying Collection,” a collection of skits by several different playwrights, was performed by the young thespians in an in-school assembly as a full-dress rehearsal the day before the public performance. After seeing the skits, the Wheatland Middle School Principal, Robert Daniel, chose to cancel the December 15 public showing. The decision was fully supported by Superintendent John Wiegel when he discussed the situation with Daniel.

GUERNSEY – It was a nose-nipping 21 degrees with the sun sparkling crystal frost along the trail at the start of Guernsey State Park’s First Day Hike of 2024.

WHEATLAND — The Wheatland Volunteer Fire Department recently honored three of their firefighters at their annual banquet in December.

PLATTE COUNTY – After nearly two years, renovations on the Platte County Courthouse are near completion. Courthouse offices are open today in their original location. The courthouse renovations were funded by the 6th penny tax, numerous grants, and reserve funds. Although, the cost of renovation came in nearly 6.5 million dollars the project came in under budget.

WHEATLAND — The Services for Seniors Activities calendar in December was full of parties, holiday crafts, caroling and of course an Ugly Sweater Contest (who’s judging that!).

WHEATLAND – Hand Therapy of Wyoming which held its grand opening, open house and Platte County Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting Dec. 16, has a goal of getting people on track to be fully occupational and “operational.”

WHEATLAND — During a regular meeting of the Board of Platte Co. School District No. 1, John Weigel was voted in as superintendent.

WHEATLAND — Local law enforcement agencies joined with the Wyoming Hunger Initiative to bring holiday abundance to kids with a documented need. This year, Bomgaar’s in Wheatland opened their doors to 100 area kids armed with $100 in spending money. Wheatland and Guernsey Police Department, the Platte County Sheriff’s Department, and the Wheatland Volunteer Fire Department all participated in accompanying the children as they shopped for specially discounted treasures.

WHEATLAND — Over 900 wreaths were delivered to the Wheatland cemetery on Monday, December 11 as volunteers from the Laramie Peak VFW Auxiliary Post #3558 began to decorate veterans’ graves in honor of Wreaths Across America, an American nonprofit organization established in 2007 by wreath producer Morrill Worcester, assisted by veterans and truckers. The primary goal of the organization is to distribute wreaths for placement on American veterans’ graves.

There were two bids for insurance presented to the PCSD No. 1 school board during a work session last week. After hearing the presentation by Terry Sterling about the School Risk Retention Program, Ray Gallegos of HUB International told the board there wasn’t a way he could give better premiums than was presented by his competition.

WHEATLAND — After a string of car burglaries, the Wheatland police department led by Chief of Police Doug Willadsen solved the case in a matter of five hours, and councilmember Tony Montoya praised the department for their diligence. “The man responsible for the burglaries was also wanted for homicide in Colorado and was ultimately apprehended near Lusk. Good job to all the officers.”

GLENDO – With temperatures brisk in the ‘20s and no wind, the streets of Glendo filled rapidly at the start of the Parade of Lights in Glendo on December 9th.

WHEATLAND — Legacy Home, a nursing, rehab, and assisted living facility, hosted an open house to showcase their very impressive occupational and physical therapy gym and services recently.

WHEATLAND — Every December, Platte Valley Bank welcomes their Ambassador Club members to a Christmas lunch and party in appreciation and as a benefit for being a member.

GLENDO — After decades of dedicated service, three volunteer first responders have decided to retire from their roles.

WHEATLAND — On a chilly but clear night, a happy crowd of townspeople lined main street dressed in their coziest hats and mittens, awaiting the Toyland Christmas Parade and lighting of the courthouse lawn and library.

WHEATLAND – In the early morning hours of Wednesday, November 22, citizens of Wheatland were victims of random theft of their possessions in unlocked cars.

WHEATLAND — While everyone takes a breath after the special election, reports from the County Treasurer are positive with a five-month collections total exceeding an average of $330,000 per month. According to County Treasurer Kristi Rietz, October itself proved to be a good collections month.
