HARTVILLE — If you don’t know, you better go. Almost 1200 acres of grassy hills and pine-topped vistas are home to the Kindness Ranch Animal Sanctuary north of Hartville. Since opening in 2007, Kindness Ranch has been home to animals that have been tested or otherwise used in lab and clinical trials and experimentation at universities, medical schools and private laboratories, providing them a place for rehabilitation, and/or adoption into their forever home. Many of these animals such as dogs, cats, horses and even pigs come to the Ranch having been repeatedly traumatized, and part of the role of the small but passionate staff is to offer a gentle, secure, and trainable environment that allows the animal to adjust to a potential home environment. The staff lives on-site and provides daily care.

WHEATLAND — A small but dedicated crowd gathered on a serene, golden evening at the Pocket Park on September 11 to pay homage to that terrible day in 2001. Many of our local first responders were in attendance, including the Wheatland Fire Department, members of the Wheatland Police Department, members of the Platte County Sheriff’s office, and Banner Health Paramedics. These are the neighborhood heroes that put their lives on the line every day with the understanding that the next emergency could mean a full stop. And so it was on that fateful and terrifying Tuesday 22 years ago. Almost 3000 lives were lost in a crushing tangle of steel, cable, concrete, and ash. Ask yourself once again, where you were. And ask yourself who put their lives at risk to save our own; for the greater good.

If your questions are not answered tonight, you will know who to contact. If you have a question, please submit it in writing to our auditors who will sort through the questions and the panel will respond with constructive answers. We will not allow questions from the floor. Our goal is to inform voters, not sway them.”
