WHEATLAND — The Wheatland Volunteer Fire Department recently honored three of their firefighters at their annual banquet in December.

Andrew Klatt was named Firefighter of the Year for 2023. Klatt has been a volunteer firefighter for more than a decade, according to WVFD Chief Bob Glasson. Joining Klatt for recognition were “Workhorse of the Year” Jeff Herb, and “Rookie of the Year” Alex Windmeier.

“Herb has been with the department two different times over the years,” said Glasson.

“He was a firefighter here years ago, then left for college. When he returned, he joined the crew again.”

Windmeier has been in the department a little over a year.

Additionally, Jerry Munger was presented with a US and Wyoming State flag that were flown at the state capitol in recognition of his induction into the Wyoming Firefighter Hall of Fame this past year. Since 1979, Munger has served as Fire Chief and President, and is currently a Wyoming Volunteer Fire Department Trustee and serves on the Wyoming Firefighter Pension Board.

Also noted at the banquet, the Wheatland Volunteer Fire Department’s fireworks stand generates a considerable amount of revenue ($5,000 this year) that benefits students through scholarships, the Food for Weekends program, and Shop with a Cop. Kade Preuit was this year’s scholarship recipient.
