Locally owned grocery store celebrates 96 years of community

To celebrate the community and past employees of the small-town, locally-owned grocery store in Wheatland, Thrifty Foods hosted a 96th birthday party on April 13. They served cake, had cake walks, liquor tastings and special deals throughout the store. All prior employees of O.P. Skaggs System, Nixson’s Supermarket, Jack & Jill, Food Pride and Thrifty Foods were given a 10 percent employee discount on Best Choice and Always Save items.

“A lot of employees from past years frequent the store as customers, and talk about the old days, and we enjoy it,” Thrifty Food manager, Jodi Poling, said in explaining why the store is hosting the birthday party. “It’s like celebrating the birthday of community. We’re a giant family.”

Poling added last year several Jack and Jill’s employees came and had cake. They had such a great time visiting they said they were committed to coming back again this year.
