During a work session last week, Platte Co. School District No. 1 Board members discussed ways to clear up lines of communication with their constituents, particularly when emails are sent addressing the whole board.

WHEATLAND — Christmas lights twinkled around a huge buffet table as 4H community members and their families contributed a feast to a holiday potluck, followed by square dancing called by the inimitable Jarvis Windom. He has been calling square dances for 52 years. Windom is classically equipped with a turntable that spins “45” vinyl records. His leather-bound cases hold row after road of old-school square dance music. When is the last time you saw that?

WHEATLAND — The Platte County Historical Society will host a talk by Jean Krause, education coordinator at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum on Tuesday, December 19 at the Platte County Library. The free program will begin at 7:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

WHEATLAND — Newly appointed Road & Bridge department head Chris Bookout is going 9-0 and his crew is right there with him. In the past 30 days the Road & Bridge crew have accomplished a sizable list of projects; mainly in preparation for what we all know can be difficult winter conditions.

To spark the holiday spirit of crafting, activities coordinator Carrie Kafka and her loyal attendees repurposed used and cleaned coffee creamer containers to create whimsical North Pole characters, from Santa and Mrs. Claus, to snowmen, and elves.

However, in all the years of gathering items for Franklin Graham/Samaritan’s Purse/Operation Christmas Child (OCC), never has OCC received such a donation that came from the closing of the Quilt Whisperer.

WHEATLAND — Wheatland Thespian Troupe 605 entertained nearly 200 people in Wheatland last week in an original performance under the direction of Kalyn Krotz and assistant director/costume designer Ton Winter.

According to Lyndsie Drescher, MOTR/L Riley is their “Walmart greeter” and is present to make all patients feel secure, comfortable, and at ease.

WHEATLAND — The Platte County Historical Society will host a program about homesteading in the Platte County area during the late 1800s. Retired educator and president of the Platte County Historical Society, Rick Robbins, will share details about the development of the area prior to it becoming a county in 1911.

CHEYENNE — Wyoming’s top education official announced a policy recommendation intended to address concerns around the state about “graphic, sexually arousing material” that she said “has no place in school.”

CHEYENNE — The Research & Planning Section of the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services reported Friday that from second quarter 2022 to second quarter 2023, total employment in the state rose by 6,814 jobs (2.5%), and total payroll increased by $266.8 million (7.2%).

LARAMIE — A local man is currently in custody and facing charges of felony eluding, theft of a vehicle, three charges of auto burglary, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine and marijuana), reckless driving and driving on a suspended license, according to a Laramie Police Department news release.

CHEYENNE — The Wyoming Supreme Court ruled Tuesday in favor of a Cheyenne man who pleaded guilty to assault against his father, saying that he was allowed to ask a district court to return his possession after his case concluded.

WHEATLAND — Platte County Memorial Hospital has been a steadfast presence in Wheatland for decades. Although the hospital was located in different buildings prior to the present-day site, the structure on 14th St. (while having undergone many changes in its own right), has been the hub of critical care access in the county and outlying rural area since 1955.
