WHEATLAND — Creative minds are firing on all cylinders at the Services for Seniors Activity Center. To spark the holiday spirit of crafting, activities coordinator Carrie Kafka and her loyal attendees repurposed used and cleaned coffee creamer containers to create whimsical North Pole characters, from Santa and Mrs. Claus, to snowmen, and elves.

WHEATLAND — If holiday anticipation has overtaken you like the Spirit of Christmas Past, there are many ways to transform the inner Ebeneezer Scrooge by donating resources to a few local charities such as the Food 4 Weekends Food Drive and the Lions Club of Wheatland Angel Tree.

WHEATLAND — In spite of the annual post-Thanksgiving snow storm and sub-freezing temperatures, hardy Wheatlandites forged ahead as the smoky, mouth-watering aroma of barbecued brisket and pork loin hung in the frosty air outside MB Rafter Arena on Saturday, November 25 for the 4th Annual Christmas Bazaar.

WHEATLAND — Platte County residents have always gone beyond in donating to causes that help others. However, in all the years of gathering items for Franklin Graham/Samaritan’s Purse/Operation Christmas Child (OCC), never has OCC received such a donation that came from the closing of the Quilt Whisperer.

WHEATLAND — Wheatland Thespian Troupe 605 entertained nearly 200 people in Wheatland last week in an original performance under the direction of Kalyn Krotz and assistant director/costume designer Ton Winter.

WHEATLAND — Your first greeting when you enter Wyoming Hand & Physical Therapy is going to be from beautiful and friendly Riley, the clinic’s therapy dog; an Australian Shepherd/Blue Heeler mix that is as sweet as can be. According to Lyndsie Drescher, MOTR/L Riley is their “Walmart greeter” and is present to make all patients feel secure, comfortable, and at ease.

WHEATLAND — The Platte County Historical Society will host a program about homesteading in the Platte County area during the late 1800s. Retired educator and president of the Platte County Historical Society, Rick Robbins, will share details about the development of the area prior to it becoming a county in 1911.

WHEATLAND — There’s good news for anyone who burned the turkey or just simply find themselves stranded or in need of a good home-cooked meal on Thanksgiving.

WHEATLAND — Platte County Memorial Hospital has been a steadfast presence in Wheatland for decades. Although the hospital was located in different buildings prior to the present-day site, the structure on 14th St. (while having undergone many changes in its own right), has been the hub of critical care access in the county and outlying rural area since 1955.

WHEATLAND — Once again the Agriplex was bustling with shoppers, artisans, crafters and holiday cheer at the annual Holiday Bazaar sponsored by the Wheatland Town & Country Garden Club whose members provided free coffee and sold fresh slices of cream and fruit pies. Kiwanis members were on hand serving up sloppy joes, brats, and franks

A cold and blustery Saturday started with a parade of dozens of children dressed up for Halloween in anticipation of the annual Trunk or Treat event downtown.

In spite of a low, gray sky, and icy bits of snow swirling through the air, the Glendo Fall Fun event boasted a great turnout for the Smoked Meat Cookoff, Farmer’s Market, Craft Fair, and Trunk or Treat with outdoor games for kids hosted at the Glendo School.

The Wheatland High School Rodeo Club plans this event several months ahead of time every year. Thanks to the support of many businesses that donated money and individuals that donate time the event can run smoothly. This was the last rodeo of the fall season for Wyoming, events will resume in the spring of 2024.

“Nobody would let me quit,” Vineyard recalls. “The whole town said, ‘You can’t quit this.’”

Arts & Crafts classes at Services for Seniors are providing a cheerful, creative outlet for seniors in Wheatland thanks to the efforts of the activities coordinator, Carrie Kafka.

Larry Cundall, of Douglas, and recently of Glendo, was inducted into the Wyoming Cowboy Hall of Fame at a ceremony held in Casper on September 16.

Simply Creative owner, Genia Vineyard and her hard-working and talented team hosted an elaborate party complete with swag-bags, door prizes, special VIP discounts at the boutique and more.

WHEATLAND – It’s called a silent art. Unlike a musician, there are no lyrics or music. Unlike an actor, the voice is silent. Unlike a dancer, there is no movement, and yet his art moves us all.
