WHEATLAND — Did you know that Platte Paratransit, based in Wheatland, offers transportation for medical necessities such as dialysis treatment, chemotherapy, or other medical appointments to residents in Wheatland, Guernsey, and Chugwater? They also provide transit to a residence if the patient was transported to a hospital via ambulance after an injury, illness, or emergency, such as a car accident.

WHEATLAND — For two years the congregants at the Wheatland Church of the Nazarene have been without an in-person, local pastor. The former Nazarene pastor, who filled the pulpit for many years, moved on to Idaho, and members of the Wheatland church began joining those services via live-stream on Sundays. It can be uncomfortable for church members to be without a pastor; and finally, after two years, a man was called to Wheatland from Freetown, Indiana: Dale Braker and his wife June.

WHEATLAND — Members of the Wheatland Middle and High schools’ choirs entertained a full house on Tuesday at the annual Winter Choir Concert, under the direction of music instructor Chris Leathers, and piano accompaniment by Shelley Marker. Middle school choir, Middle School Combined Choir, Concert Choir, Treble Choir, and Entertainers all performed both traditional and non-traditional holiday music.

WHEATLAND — It was standing room only on Thursday night as families and friends filled the WHS auditorium to overflowing for the holiday band concert. The concert featured 5th through 12th grade bands directed by the festively attired Evan Bradley.

WHEATLAND — Amid plenty of activities and holiday fun throughout the community, Bomgaar’s sponsored a holiday pet photo shoot featuring the talents of Justin Herdt (DJ Majik) on Saturday.

WHEATLAND — Dance Wyoming underwent some changes in October as long-time studio owner and instructor Linda Fabian officially retired, passing the baton (and the keys) to new owners Mira Taylor and Summer Whelchel. While Taylor and Whelchel are new owners, they are not new to Dance Wyoming, and have been either teaching or managing for several years.

During a work session last week, Platte Co. School District No. 1 Board members discussed ways to clear up lines of communication with their constituents, particularly when emails are sent addressing the whole board.

WHEATLAND — Christmas lights twinkled around a huge buffet table as 4H community members and their families contributed a feast to a holiday potluck, followed by square dancing called by the inimitable Jarvis Windom. He has been calling square dances for 52 years. Windom is classically equipped with a turntable that spins “45” vinyl records. His leather-bound cases hold row after road of old-school square dance music. When is the last time you saw that?

WHEATLAND — The Platte County Historical Society will host a talk by Jean Krause, education coordinator at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum on Tuesday, December 19 at the Platte County Library. The free program will begin at 7:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
