Roger A. Hollingsworth passed away peacefully at his home near Wheatland on Friday, July 17.
Roger was born on Friday, May 23, 1947, in Trinidad, Colorado, to Clarence Elmer and Marie Lydia (Albo) Hollingsworth. He grew up in Leadville and the Trinidad area of Colorado.
Roger was first married, and three children were born to that union. Following their divorce, he married Patricia Ettles in 1971. Together they welcomed their daughter, Stacey, in 1974, and their son, Chase, in 1984, completing their family.
Roger was a man of many talents and occupations throughout his life. He began flying airplanes at the age of 16, a passion he carried with him for many years. He earned his excavating and real estate licenses, hauled cattle, and worked as a crane operator at North Antelope Mine. In 1998, Roger and Patricia moved to Wheatland, where they owned and operated a concrete plant and later Western Skies Restaurant. The couple also owned and operated Designer Creek and Waterfalls, based in Aspen, Colorado.
In 2010, Roger was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. He faced the disease with determination and courage throughout the years that followed.
Roger loved the western way of life and enjoyed spending time roping, fishing, hunting, playing pool, and trying his luck gambling. He was known for always looking sharp during his winters in Arizona and for his willingness to lend a helping hand. One of his greatest joys was working with young people at roping events, where he enjoyed encouraging and teaching kids about rodeo and the values that came with it.
Roger is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Hollingsworth; his children, Rodger (Crystal) Hollingsworth, Bridget Hollingsworth, Stacey Hollingsworth (Tyler Boyd), and Chase Hollingsworth; his brother, Sam (Anna) Hollingsworth; his grandchildren, Shelby Hollingsworth, Blake Hollingsworth, Bailey Purvis, and several other beloved grandchildren; and his great-grandchildren, Audri Sheeley, Willow Bebo, and countless other cherished great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Barbie Hollingsworth; siblings, Bev Garner, Shirley Frost, Sandy Hollingsworth, Terry Hollingsworth, Budd Hollingsworth, and Robbie Hollingsworth.
A memorial to the Wyoming High School Rodeo Club or to the Cowboy Crisis Fund would be appreciated by the family.
Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Kersting, Mike Grant, Jim Abbott, Tommy Gomez, Mike Hoffman, Dustin Smith, Justin Smith, Greg Smith, Tyler Boyd, Jhett Hadley, and T.C. Hadley.
