Margaret was born in Denver, Colorado to Eugene and Rose Schmidt. She grew up in Denver, graduating from South High School, and attending Colorado State University (CSU). Marrying Larry Jones in 1961, they soon moved to Casper. The family of six children, Daniel, Janice, Bonnie, Audrey, Dayton, and Elaine moved about the state, following Larry’s career with Mountain Bell Telephone Company. The last stop was Wheatland in 1975 where Margaret lived until the time of her passing.
Margaret is survived by five of her six children, eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Margaret was proceeded in the death by her parents, three siblings Eugene (Bill), Eleanor, John and her eldest daughter Janice. With the loss of Janice, Margaret raised her grandson, Shaun.
Margaret always worked hard to ensure that all her children were well cared for and doing their best. She worked for the Platte County Weed & Pest district and the City of Wheatland. She also worked at the senior center driving the “busy bee” to transport seniors to and from the center. Margaret’s leisure activities were ceramic and volunteering at the Platte County Historical Society. She enjoyed spending time with her children, camping, baking, and her beloved dogs and cats. Margaret also attended community college classes during the evening hours and completed her college degree in accounting.
Margaret loved her grandkids! She would make many varieties of cookies for the yearly camping trip to the Snowy Range. The memories for her grandchildren are the countless hours sitting around the campfire singing, telling stories, and of course eating cookies.
Margaret was very active in the Wheatland Saint Patrick Catholic Church.
In her later years, Margaret suffered health problems and moved to Platte County Legacy Home for continual care.
Margaret is interred at Mount Olivet cemetery in Wheat Ridge, Colorado; along with her father, mother and the Schmidt family.
The family would like to thank the staff of Platte County’s Legacy Home for their wonderful care of our mother during her final years. The family requests that memorial donation be made in Margret’s name to Saint Patrick Catholic Church in Wheatland.
