Leonard Nelson Vineyard, 90, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at the Platte County Legacy Home in Wheatland.
Leonard Nelson was born to Edgar Nelson and Iona (Cox) Vineyard on Saturday, January 26, 1935 in Shidler, Oklahoma. The family moved to Wyoming when Nelson was one year old. His dad worked on various ranches, but mainly the Diamond Ranch at Chugwater.
Nelson attended school in Chugwater where he met Carolyn Ann Morey. They were married on October 29, 1954. To this union, five sons were born.
Nelson worked on various ranches in eastern Wyoming, drove truck, and was a brand inspector. In 1979 he went to work for the Wheatland Co-op delivering propane. He became the manager of the Co-op in 1992. In 2000 he retired, but stayed on part-time driving truck until 2008.
Nelson enjoyed history, mainly Wyoming history but also world history. He was a past member of the Chugwater Historical Club. He was a patriotic man and loved his country.
Nelson is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carolyn; siblings, Mary Jo, Cobby, Barbara, and JD; and grandson, Toby.
He is survived by sons, Guy (Becky), Tod (Vicky), Rod (Trish), Mike, and David (Gina); nine grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
