With profound sadness and deep gratitude for a life well lived, the family of Mable Francis Frederick announces her passing on Saturday, Sept. 12 at the age of 81. 

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m.. on Saturday, Sept. 19 at Guernsey-Sunrise High School in Guernsey with Pastor Kelly Thompson officiating. Inurnment with be in Prairie Rest Cemetery in Guernsey.

Mable was born on Sept. 10, 1945 in Cody to John and Lucille (Smith) Payton. She was the third of five children. In 1961, her family relocated from Shoshoni to Guernsey, a community that would become her lifelong home.

Mable graduated from Guernsey-Sunrise High School in 1964. Following graduation, she attended Chadron State College, where she earned a degree in Library Science and Elementary Education in 1967.

After teaching for one year in Gothenburg, Nebraska, Mable returned to Guernsey in 1968 and joined the faculty of Guernsey-Sunrise Schools. For the next 34 years, she dedicated herself to educating and inspiring elementary school students.  

On Dec. 27, 1967, Mable married Chuck Frederick. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, friendship, and service to their community. They were blessed with two sons, Shawn and Craig, who were among her greatest joys and proudest accomplishments.

Mable was a devoted Christian whose faith guided her throughout her life. As a longtime member of the United Presbyterian Church of Guernsey, she faithfully served as a church officer at both the local and state level. Her love for teaching was also expressed throughout her faith journey as she led Sunday school classes and numerous Bible studies. 

Upon retiring from education in the spring of 2002, Mable’s commitment to serving her community and love of family continued. She embarked on a second career as a pharmacy technician and owner of Register Cliff Pharmacy. She retired at the age of 77, leaving behind yet another remarkable legacy of dedication and service.

Mable will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She was a faithful Christian, dedicated educator, community service leader, and a treasured friend. Though she will be greatly missed, her legacy of kindness, service, and love will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. 

Mable was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Merton Payton. 

She was survived by husband, Chuck Frederick; sons, Shawn Frederick of Franklin, Tennessee and Craig Frederick of Guernsey; grandchildren, Austin Tyler of Windsor, Colorado, Dakota Kohfield (Tanner) of Boulder, Colorado, Caleb Frederick of Nashville, Tennessee and Abby Frederick of Atlanta, Georgia; one great-grandchild, Eli Tyler; and siblings, Smith Payton, Florence Hayes (Bob), and Betty Jo Martinez.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered to the Platte County Library, 904 9th Street, Wheatland, WY 82201.
