WHEATLAND – The Wheatland Town Council recently issued a letter proclaiming support of the National Day of Prayer, to be held Thursday, May 2. The proclamation supports a rally around the flag poles at Wheatland middle and high schools before the start of the school day, beginning at 7:30 a.m. as well a noon gathering at the Platte County Courthouse.
2024 marks the 73rd annual National Day of Prayer after being established as law in 1952, though the first National Day of Prayer was declared by the First Continental Congress in 1775. This year, the theme is “Lift up the word, light the world,” based on 2 Samuel 22:29-31. The ESV translation of the verse says, “For you are my lamp, O Lord, and my God lightens my darkness. For by you I can run against a troop, and by my God I can leap over a wall. This God – his way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.”
Unified prayer is mobilized across America every first Thursday of May as neighbors come together to join their hearts and voices in prayer for our communities and our country.
“Everyone is welcome to join in prayer for unity in our country,” the Wheatland proclamation says.
