Bulldogs claim victory over Moorcroft

WHEATLAND – The Wheatland Bulldog football team hosted the Moorcroft Wolves last Friday night and came away with a solid win with a final score of 74-22.

It was Senior Night and the seniors were honored before the game with their parents. The night started out brisk and grew steadily colder and windier through the evening, but the fans and the players had high spirits. Bulldogs were first on the scoreboard with a touchdown by Jake Hicks in the first minute of play but were answered just as quickly with a Moorcroft touchdown. The Wolves struggled to advance the ball, partly because Jake Hicks sacked the quarterback twice before the quarter was over. The Bulldogs scored two more times in the first quarter taking the score to 20-8 going into the second quarter.
Early in the second quarter, Todd Paisley got a sack, but the Wolves still made a touchdown. Sophomore Hyannie Fauso claimed the fourth touchdown for the home team, running from the opposing team’s end of the field and the team added a successful conversion. Moorcroft struggled against the Wheatland defense, but kept chipping away at the yards in bits and pieces until they scored a touchdown. The Bulldogs started back down the field with a successful 20-yard pass to Kobey Preuit but could not make it across the first-down line in subsequent plays. The Wolves regained possession but did not have it long when the Bulldogs claimed it back and scored a touchdown and field goal making the score 27-16 Bulldogs leading at the end of the first half.
Hicks revved up the energy right away in the second half with a field-long run to the 7-yard-line which lead to a quick touchdown in the next play in the first two minutes of the quarter. Moorcroft lost the offensive almost back to back and Wheatland scored twice in quick succession taking the score to 47-16. Rodee Brow intercepted a pass and scored another touchdown for the Bulldogs. This time, the Wolves kept the ball long enough to get in a 68-yard run down the middle to a touchdown, trying to chip away at the score deficit. But Wheatland would not be stopped as Brow caught a perfect pass from quarterback Kade Preuit and was uncatchable as he ran down the length of the field scoring again in the third quarter with a successful conversion saw the end-of-quarter score at 60-22.
Moorcroft didn’t seem to have the fight in them anymore as Wheatland scored two more times in the fourth quarter making the final score 74-22. The Bulldogs play in Pinedale next weekend. Their record is 3-3 in the Eastern 2A Conference and 3-4 overall. The Bulldogs are locked into the Class 2A State playoffs regardless of what happens against Pinedale.
