The Wheatland Lady Bulldog softball team dropped the first game but came back to claim the second in a doubleheader with Thunder Basin last Thursday.

In the first game, the Dawgs fell 11-6. The Bolts went up 2-0 in the first inning, but Wheatland came back and tied the game in the second inning when Landri Vaughn homered to center field.

Thunder Basin turned on the heat in the third, scoring five runs on four hits to take a 7-2 lead, but the Dawgs answered again as Mackenzie Lockman went over the fence to drive in three runs, now down just 7-5. The Bolts added a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth innings, then got two more in the seventh, while Wheatland managed to add just one more run in the sixth inning.

Lockman pitched five innings, surrendering nine runs (seven earned) on eight hits, striking out three and walking three.

She was the hot bat for Wheatland, going two for three and collecting three RBIs.  Vaughn and Rylee Coates also had two hits apiece and Wheatland’s defense turned two double plays in the game.

The Dawgs got their revenge in the second game, scoring six runs in the first inning to go on to claim an 8-2 win. Coates and Lockman each had two RBIs while Delaney Aurich, Camryn Mickelsen, Carly Robertson, and Halle Mickelsen each had one.

Vaughn was the winning pitcher, giving up six hits and two runs in four innings. She struck out four and walked four.

The Dawgs work in the field helped secure the win as they played errorless ball.

The Dawgs were scheduled to play a doubleheader with Campbell County on Saturday but the weather forced postponement. Those games were rescheduled for May 7.

Up next for the Dawgs is a doubleheader with the Campbell County Camels on Monday, April 29th in Gillette. Games are set for 3 and 5 p.m.
