PUBLIC NOTICE
PLATTE COUNTY WEED AND PEST
CONTROL DISTRICT
ORGANIC FARMS and / or
GRAPE GROWERS POLICY
The Platte County Weed and Pest Control District (Weed and Pest) requires that any organic fields and/or grape vineyards in Platte County be reported in writing to the Weed and Pest if a change from normal adjacent right of way weed control is needed. The report must include a map of the field and/or vineyard locations and a brief description of the restrictions that are required from the Weed and Pest in regard to pesticide use and application. These reports must be to the Weed and Pest office by April 19th of the current year.
To protect grape production, the Weed and Pest has greatly reduced its use of 2,4-D products on state and county roads. The Weed and Pest has replaced the 2,4-D herbicides with less volatile alternatives. Use of 2,4-D herbicides may be used early in the spring on weeds that require this herbicide for control.
It is important to remember that it is against the law to have designated and declared noxious weeds that may spread to the detriment of your neighbors. Roads often spread noxious weeds to neighboring land through grading and mowing. That is why the Weed and Pest spends considerable funds to control these weeds on the road rights of way.
Request made by landowners to the Weed and Pest that no spraying will be done on state and county roads next to their property will be honored. However, the landowner will then be held responsible for the designated and declared noxious weed control in the rights of way. Failure to control these weeds will be a violation of the Wyoming Weed and Pest Control Act and will be subject to the provisions of the Act.
