Lobos win four of six on the road

WHEATLAND – The Lobos have rebounded from early season loses and have found their sweet spot in the the last six games crossing the plate 36 times and garnering 46 hits.

Considering a let-down game to Douglas who nearly no-heat the Lobos, those stats were mostly gathered in five games.

They began the road trip June 16 as they took the long bus ride to Sheridan. In the first game of the twin bill, the Lobos scored seven runs and accounted for 13 hits and would have surely gathered more runs had they not stranded eight players on the bases. Goodrich was the winning pitcher giving up only six hits for the game. In the second game, Wheatland won by a score of 5-3 and picked up six more hits in the contest. Ryland Petroski pitched an almost flawless game allowing only two hits.

A trip to Torrington four days later found two crowd-pleasers and two very evenly matched teams. In the opening game both teams reached double figures in hits with 10 apiece. A 10-run sixth inning by Torrington sealed their deal and they came away with an 11-6 victory. Goodrich took the loss for the Wolves. Game two saw a close see-saw battle with the Lobos coming out with a 9-8 victory in spite of Torrington once again knocking out 10 hits. JP Anderson came away with the win and Wheatland ended up with nine runs on nine hits.

Heading into Douglas is no easy task and the first game showcased the strong hitting and pitching potential that the neighbors to the north could provide. They nearly shut out the Lobos and if not for a double by Noah Whitfield, it would have been so. The Lobos bowed to the Cats 11-1 and Douglas pounded out 16 hits against pitchers Kade Preuit and Whitfield. The second game was a much different story for the Lobos who not only held their own on offense picking up eight runs and seven hits, but again, an almost flawless pitching performance by Petroski was the story in spite of four Wheatland errors. Petroski gave up only two runs and one hit in the victory.
