WHEATLAND – The Wheatland High School gym was full once again for exciting volleyball action as the Bulldogs took on conference rivals Douglas Bearcats on Thursday.
Coming off of a 1-1 record from the week before, the Bulldogs were gunning hard for the Bearcats who are currently on top of the 3A Southeast Conference.
The Bulldogs and Bearcats steadily traded points in each set and the Bulldogs held their own under strong offensive attacks and tough serving from the Bearcats. In spite of steadfast defense and smart net play, the Bulldogs succumbed in three sets, losing to Douglas 25-19, 25-19 and 25-23. Kacey Otero was awarded the sportsmanship award for Wheatland on Thursday night.
Friday the 13th brought nothing but good luck to the Bulldogs as they traveled to Torrington and won in four sets: 25-22, 22-25, 25-18 and 25-22.
The Wheatland Bulldogs, coached by Sally Nichols, are ranked No. 5 in Class 3A in the WyoPreps.com Coaches and Media Poll. Overall, the Lady Bulldogs hold a record of 18-9.
The Bulldogs will travel to Rawlins on Friday and challenge non-conference Moorcroft at home on Saturday.
