Guernsey-Sunrise Lady Vikings begin their season

YODER – The Guernsey-Sunrise Lady Vikings began their season against top-ranked Southeast. The Cyclones showed their dominance early and for the Lady Vikings with new coaches and a lot of teaching in the past few weeks, were overwhelmed.

The Cyclones were pitching a shutout at halftime, 37-0 and about halfway through the third quarter the Vikes scored their first points of the new season. Rylie Thompson hit a shot and Lashea Dimas made a free throw. That was all they could muster against the loaded team in Yoder.

The final score was 57-3.

On Saturday the girls traveled to Banner County where they got their first win of the year by a score of 37-21. That was the most points scored in a game for a Lady Viking team in over two years.

For the game, Thompson led all scorers with 16 points and led the team with two blocks. Liberty Whitebird scored 14 points followed by Layla Noggle with three points. Dimas ended up with two points as did Kaylie Haase.

“It was a good start to the season for us but we have a lot of work to do still,” said new varsity coach Curtis Cook. “I'm so proud of the girls and look forward to getting everyone back and up to speed moving forward.”
