GUERNSEY — They were down by four at the end of the first quarter. They reduced it to just one by halftime. With one quarter to go, the Lady Vikings found themselves on the short end of a 28-34 score and with just eight minutes to go and a season record that showed just two notches in the win column, things didn’t look great. But this time, it would go their way the Lady Vikes outscored the Lady Miners 20-12 in the final quarter to take a 48-42 win, especially rewarding as it was the seniors final game in the Viking gym. For the first time, the Lady Vikes had two players hit double-doubles.
Junior forward Whitney Martin was on fire from the start, scoring 21 points, 11 of them in the final quarter. She finished with 13 rebounds, an assist, two steals and one blocked shot in her best game of the season.
Trinity Ayers, another junior forward, pitched in 12 points, hitting four of eight from the stripe and took down 10 rebounds.
Senior guard Lakin Reichert hit a pair of treys for six points, one of those a key bucket in the final minutes. She had three rebounds, a steal and an assist.
Junior guard Blake Rose added five points and sophomore guard Krista Malcom put in four points, all fourth-quarter free-throws. She grabbed three rebounds and four steals and added an assist.
