Bulldogs win final regular season game, look ahead to regional tournament

MOORCROFT – The Wheatland Bulldogs traveled to Moorcroft last weekend and came out a bit flat after the long bus ride.

Struggling to balance their setup offense with the Wolves aggressive offensive breaking, the Bulldogs found themselves in a 10-point hole midway through the first half, 17-7. Wheatland caught fire after halftime as head coach Mick Cochran made some well-timed adjustments and sounded an alarm. From that point on the Bulldogs outdistanced the Wolves 44-10 and recorded their third highest offensive output for the season, as they won it going away 51-27.

The leading scorer for the Bulldogs was JP Anderson with 16 points followed by Jacob Hyche with 10. Brock Peasley had eight, while Aric Suko added seven. Lee Raser and Bryce Stenson had four apiece, and Nolan Schaffner had two and Colton Halverson one.

The Bulldogs finish the regular season with an 8-16 record.

“The last game was the tale of two halves,” Cochran said. “We slept walked thru the first half. Then after a wake-up call at halftime, we started playing good basketball. We got out to shooters and limited their opportunities. We held them to 8 second half points. We also got things going offensively. We got some easy looks inside and that softened things up on the perimeter. As we move forward to regionals, we can’t afford anymore halves like we had at Moorcroft. We will be focused and prepared. I like the bench minutes we have had lately from Trigg Peasely and Tagg Mickelson. If we get that from all of our bench we will be in great shape. Currently our opponent at regionals is unknown, but we know it will be Buffalo, Moorcroft or Glenrock, all dependent upon the outcome of Torrington and Rawlins on Monday.”
