Bulldogs drop two last weekend
WHEATLAND – In a dog-fight of conference foes last Friday night, the Burns Broncs withstood a mighty last quarter charge and held on for a 64-62 victory in Wheatland.
Burns came of the chute on fire and built a 10-point lead which the Bulldogs fought feverishly to erase. Down 22-12 at the end of the first quarter, the Dogs chipped away slightly in a back-and-forth game. By halftime the Broncs were still up 33-25.
Wheatland further chipped away in the third quarter and gained another point closer and were down 47-40. The Broncs began applying double and sometimes triple pressure on Kade Preuit who had scored 14 first-half points.
The third could only send Preuit to the line where he converted 4-4. Physical play and realizing that Preuit wasn’t threatening from the perimeter caused a tight zone collapse to help find an answer for Preuit.
In the third quarter the score was down to within four points at 40-36 which is a gap that the Bulldogs couldn’t close. Burns then went on a 7-1 run to end the third quarter and maintained a double-digit lead for only a short time before the fourth quarter run by the Dogs brought the score to 49-46 with over six-minutes left in the game.
