Bulldog golfers get to compete in Casper and Buffalo

CASPER – In an unusual twist of luck, the weather cooperated for Wheatland’s spring golf team as they got a chance to play in Casper and in Buffalo last week.

“It was a great week for WHS golf as we got a chance to play twice last week with superb conditions,” coach Tony Nichols said. “On Tuesday, we got a chance to compete in Casper against a strong 4A field.  Our boys battled and placed ninth out of 13 teams. We were led by sophomore Brecken Sandlian who shot an impressive 80 after a bumpy front nine.  He was closely followed by junior Matthew Wakkuri (81), sophomore Dylan Nelson (84), seniors Caden Davis (86), and Maxx Meyer (91).”

In Buffalo, the boys played well to take sixth out of nine teams. The Dogs were led by sophomore Dylan Nelson and freshman Cooper Meyer who both fired 86 to lead the way. Brecken Sandlian (87) and Matthew Wakkuri (94) held their own as well on a tough track.

“The spring season started off with weather issues, but the golf gods have provided our golfers with some phenomenal playing conditions of late for practice and tournaments,” Nichols said. “Hopefully, we can continue the streak by finishing the spring season in Laramie and Wheatland with nice weather.”
