CASPER - Wheatland Bulldog senior Tyler Bohnen capped a high school track career in the best way possible as he took state championships in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes. One of four on the Wheatland team to qualify for the state meet in the 100, he was the only one to make the finals in that event. Bohnen ran an 11.25 to take the state title. In the prelims, Bryce Stenson ran 11.42, Cole Goertz clocked 11.76 and Brock Peasley suffered the unforgiving false start. Peasley and Bohnen both ran the prelims for the 200 but Peasley’s time of 23.42 was short of making the finals. Bohnen finished first with a time of 21.91.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Simon May, Goertz, Tagg Mickelsen and Peasley finished sixth with a time of 3:37.04. Douglas won the event in 3:27.23.

Bode Stone finished sixth in the shot put, hitting 47-02.75. Tegen Seeds of Douglas took the state title with a distance of 57-01.25.

One of the biggest disappointments of the weekend was a disqualification of the 4x100 relay team of Stenson, Goertz, Mickelsen and Bohnen due to a handoff issue.  After winning the event at the 3A East regional in 43.87, they were expected to finish well at the state meet. Lovell won the event in 43.65, so it’s reasonable to think Wheatland may well have given Lovell some strong competition.

Simon May ran 55.91 in the 400 prelims but did not finish high enough to make the finals.

Goertz’s time of 42.47 in the 300 hurdles was not enough to get him into the finals.

Jacob Miller finished in the 12th spot in the high jump, clearing 5-08.

In the pole vault, Ethan Jackson cleared 12-0 ended up in 7th place and Clayton Dahlstedt cleared 11-0 to finish 16th.

Stenson jumped 19-00.75 to finish 13th in the long jump and marked 39-02 for 11th place in the triple jump.

Ethan Jackson did not receive a mark in the triple jump after he was called for a foul.

Douglas won the state team championship with 135.5 points. Lovel finished second with 87.5 followed by Powell (77), Buffalo (71), Worland (64.5), Mountain View (63), Lander Valley (60), Thermpolis (37), Torrington (34), Wheatland (27.5), Newcastle (16), Lyman (14), Glenrock (8), Rawlins (6), and Pinedale (1).

Finishing their final season of high school track at this year’s regionals and state meet are Tyler Bohnen, Gabriel Haroldson, Ethan Jackson, Simon May, Tagg Mickelsen, Brock Peasley, Derrick Sarad and Bryce Stenson.
