Wheatland sweeps Burns, Newcastle

WHEATLAND – It was an evening of triumph as the Wheatland boys basketball faced Newcastle after the successful girls game and won their game as well, 54-40. This was following Fridays conference win over Burns, 63 – 44.
The first score of the game was a 3-pointer performed by senior Kobey Preuit. Mytchell Pollock grabbed the next two baskets, one being a free throw and another 3-pointer was sunk by Luke Anderson. The Dogies were finally able to get on the board with 20 seconds left in the first quarter with a free-throw. The score was 11-1, Bulldogs confidently in the lead.
The second quarter the Dogies committed several fouls the Bulldogs with Wheatland taking advantage of most of them. When it came time for halftime, the Bulldogs were in the lease 22-12.
Preuit was the first to score for the Bulldogs in the third quarter. The growing score was contributed by several of the home players including Anderson, Preuit, Rodee Brow, Pollock, Ned Hageman and Nolan Smialek. Third quarter score was 37-21, Bulldogs take a commanding lead.
The Dogies kept fighting, making an impressive 19 points in the last quarter. However, the Bulldogs matched their intensity with their own 17 points winning the game, 54-40.
The Wheatland boys team will next play this Saturday against Gering, Neb. at 7 p.m. in Wheatland.
