CHEYENNE – Local boxer, Icle Williams, traveled to the Wyoming State Silver Gloves Championships. It was held in Cheyenne, on Dec. 7 at the B.E.A.S.T facility.
Williams fought in a “Developmental Match,” she is allowed to participate in five. These matches happen when the boxer cannot be matched up for one reason or another. If both coaches agree on the Development Match, they can box in a real match but it won’t go into their sanctioned match book. Her opponent was a year older and had three bouts under her belt but Icle was 15 pounds heavier. This weight difference was the barrier to the sanctioned match.
Williams fought hard and although they don’t call a winner, she walked away confident in her bout and ready to dig in and train harder.
She represented all of her teammates from the Hard Knocks Boxing Club with her coach James Manzanares.
She is training to compete in a sanctioned match this coming February in Scottsbluff, Neb. and is working towards qualifying for the Junior Olympics some day.
