Grandfather dies in house fire

WHEATLAND – Tragically, Tom Lambert died in a fire at his home last week on Ponderosa Street. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the State Fire Marshall’s office.
There was a 911 call that called emergency responders to the scene. A Wheatland Police Officer was one of the first to arrive and ran into the burning structure to try and rescue the victim. He was unable to reach him and had to be taken to Platte County Memorial Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

“The Fire Department is sorry for the family’s loss,” said fire chief Bob Glasson. “We would like to ask everyone to watch out for their neighbors, friends and family and make sure they have working smoke detectors in their house.”

There were four adults and one child who also lived in the trailer that is a complete loss. Several agencies in town collected personal care items and clothing needed for the surviving members. They are staying with friends and family and currently have all the belongings they need for the time being.
