Fatal Crash East Of Laramie, Wyoming

On April 23, 2019, a motor vehicle crash occurred at milepost 333 on Interstate 80 east of Laramie, Wyoming.  Around 1:37 p.m., Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched to the area to investigate.

 A 2014 Subaru was traveling eastbound on Interstate 80 when the driver failed to negotiate a slight curve to the left.  The Subaru drifted off the right side of the roadway before the driver over-corrected back to the left. The vehicle exited the left side of the road and struck an earth embankment, before coming to a stop against some large rocks.          

 The driver of the Subaru has been identified as 73-year-old Monterey, California resident Charles C. Vanmeter.  Vanmeter was wearing his seatbelt but succumbed to injuries at the scene of the crash.    

 Driver inattention or a possible medical emergency is being investigated as a contributing factor.

This is the 46 fatality on Wyoming’s roadways in 2019 compared to 23

in 2018, 31 in 2017, and 14 in 2016 to date.
