Christopher “Chris” Stafford, 75, passed away Monday, June 15 at his home in Wheatland of natural causes.
Chris Stafford was born in Pocatello, Idaho to Graham Stafford and MarGene Grant. He spent most of his youth in southeastern Idaho exploring the mountains as much as possible. He had a chronic need to explore and study the natural beauty of his surroundings. As a teenager, Chris lived in California and Colorado. He then spent a year in Mexico. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army. After his time in the service, Chris lived in Texas with stops in Illinois and New York. Chris had a very creative artistic side with his woodwork and his poetry that brought him much peace. He was always making something out of nothing and was always “scribbling” down his poetry on whatever sheet of paper that was available. Chris returned to the mountain west in 1980 living in and around Salt Lake City, Utah.
Chris is survived by his brother, Greg Stratton and his wife, Dawn; one nephew; three nieces; and eight great nieces and nephews.
Chris was preceded in death by his longtime companion, Shirley Jean Gilbert. They had many adventures over the years including hiking, camping, cruises and many renaissance fairs in which they attended in full period correct costumes made by Chris. He moved to Wheatland in 2016. He enjoyed his time in “W town” as he enjoyed being away from big city life. It was here he could still focus on his woodwork, poetry, reading and flowers. He always wanted to make things better wherever he could.
The Gorman Funeral Homes – Platte Chapel of Wheatland are in charge of the arrangements.
