Wrestlers host second annual cornhole tournament to help raise funding

Posted

WHEATLAND – In the first year that the Wheatland High School wrestling team attempted a corn hole tournament to raise money for their fundraiser, there were not many teams competing and because it was kind of a last-minute event, it didn’t draw many spectators.

This year was a different story with the same timeline. On Thursday night of fair week, the WHS wrestling team set up cornhole boards in the Platte County Fairgrounds main arena. They didn’t know what to expect, but word-of-mouth and social media fueled the fire for the event.

“We had another great year with our Cornhole Tournament and Fundraiser event,” said wrestling booster Danette Eppel. “There was a great turnout of 20 adult and youth teams, raising $1000 on team entry fees.”

The silent auction Wyoming Cowboy boards sold for $350 and Carrie Hyche won the Bulldogs Wrestling boards in the raffle drawing.

“A huge shoutout to H's Custom Cuts and Kayla Bohlander for donating a large portion of their calcutta winnings back to the club as well as to the first-place adult team, Josh Pierce & Paul, and second place adult team, Eric & Cody Bohlander, for donating their cash prize winnings back to the club,” Eppel said. “Thank you to Erik Eddington and 307 Custom Coolers for their donations, to Kiwanis for letting us use their cornhole boards, to Greg Meyer for announcing, Lanay Meyer and Steve Linnebur for helping with the calcutta, the Platte County Fair Board and Fairgrounds staff for their help, Lane Read for his assistance, Rustic Creations for creating 2 sets of beautiful boards to raise money, Coach Eppel and Coach Goff for their hard work in putting this event together and building the boards, Jenkins Auto and The Tire Shop for donations for supplies for the boards, and MOST of all, to our generous community for donating and supporting Wheatland Wrestling! Without our community this would not be possible”
