WHS softball loses one, wins two in week’s match-ups
WHEATLAND and GREEN RIVER – On Monday April 7th, WHS Softball played a rescheduled game with number one ranked Cheyenne East at home. The Bulldogs fell short as East dominated the third and fourth innings with seven runs.
The weekend was a very different story as the Lady Bulldogs pulled out wins in both games of their double header versus Rock Springs. The number four ranked Bulldogs won the first game by a score of 6-3. Camryn Mickelsen had three home runs in the first, fourth, and seventh innings and had five RBI’s in the game. Mackenzie Lockman had three hits and drove in a run in the third inning hitting a single to center field. Landri Vaughn was on the mound pitching the majority of the game allowing only two hits and one run, she struck out nine batters.
The second matchup ended with the same result as multiple players earned runs in the game for a final score of 10-3. The game was led again by Mickelsen, who had two stolen bases and two hits – one being a grand slam in the sixth inning, which scored four runs for the Bulldogs. Sophie Meyer also had four hits going four-for-four from the plate and added four RBI’s. Meyer was also on the mound for the entire game allowing three runs and striking out seven batters. Delaney Aurich and Eleni McKee also had two hits each.
Saturday, WHS traveled the short stretch over to Green River and took on the Wolves. The Bulldogs came out swinging in the top of the first: Lockman, Vaughn, and Karley Adams all scored runs on solid at-bats. The game was tied through several innings 3-3, but WHS scored three runs in the final innings to pull away. Adams had three hits out of four at-bats and one RBI while C. Mickelsen hit a homerun to seal the deal. Once again the Bulldogs came out on top by a score of 6-3. Ayden Coates also drove in one run and Aurich had two hits out of four at-bats for the Bulldogs.
Game two against Green River also ended in a win for WHS by a score of 16-1. Lockman hit a solo home run in the third, and doubled in the fourth and fifth innings. Vaughn singled in the first inning, scoring two runs. Aurich had two RBI’s in the fourth inning. Meyer was on the mound for five innings striking out eight and had no walks.
The 10-3 Bulldogs will compete at Cheyenne Central on Monday, April 14. WHS will also travel to Torrington on Thursday, April 17 for a 4 p.m game.
