CASPER – For WHS track coach Matt Hazen and the Bulldogs, last week was as busy as ever for the track and field team.
“This was a crazy week with three different track meets. The whole team went to Kelly Walsh on Thursday and fought some rough weather conditions with rain, wind, and cold. They did well and managed to put up some decent marks despite the weather,” Coach Hazen stated. “On Friday the Wyoming Track Classic took place in Casper. This is for the top eight athletes in their respective events across all divisions.
“Bode Stone qualified to compete in shot put and Desirae Iacovetto qualified to compete in the 100 meter dash and Long Jump. It is quite an honor to compete at this meet because it is the best of the best athletes in the state. Bode Stone placed third in shot put with a throw of 51’-1.5”. Desirae Iacovetto placed third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.45. She also placed seventh in the long jump with a jump of 16’ - 3.75”,” Hazen continued. “The weather was much more conducive for competition on Friday. On Saturday the team went to Lusk to compete. We had multiple personal bests set and we had beautiful weather. One standout from the meet was Bode Stone. He has spent a long four years chasing a 27-year-old record and his hard work and efforts paid off big. He set a new WHS record for shot put with a throw of 52’ - 10”, congratulations Bode! The old record was set by Levi Clark back in 1998 with a throw of 51’ - 8”. It was great to see Bode finally accomplish his goal of setting the outdoor shot record. It was also great to see so many personal bests set by so many athletes. As the season starts to wind down, I am extremely excited to see so many of our athletes excelling and improving.”
