WHEATLAND – Roads were closed, buckets of candy, books and treats were prepared by local businesses, and on Saturday, Oct. 26, local families descended on downtown Wheatland for the town's annual Trunk or Treat sponsored by Platte County Main Street. Hobbits, clowns, vampires, rodents of unusual size, pioneers, and of course, favorite superheroes, were in attendance. Contestants in the costume parade got to walk down 9th and Gilchrist streets to show off their brilliant Halloween costumes in the costume parade before judging, after which winners in age brackets were given special prizes provided by Dan Brecht and the VFW Auxilary. Then it was time for candy!
If one thing can be said for Platte County's business community, it could be that they love to spread joy and provide fun for our local children. Many businesses whose brick-and-mortar locations were outside the downtown district set up decorated booths on Gilchrist Street for trick or treaters to safely gather and get their treats. Businesses within the downtown area went all out with their own costumes and decorations to provide a memorable experience for those in attendance, along with plenty of sugar. Kids were able to safely navigate the streets and collect as much candy as they could stuff in their bags, all thanks to the generous efforts of those involved.
Participating businesses included Town Hall, The Wanderer, Simply Creative, Drube Home, C.H. Brown, Wheatland Police Department, the Platte County Library, DC Dollar, Thrifty Foods, Murel's Great Treasures, Platte County Courthouse, Eastern Star & Masonic Lodge, Combat Veteran’s Motorcycle Association, Wheatland Family Dental, Platinum Health Club, Wheatland Kiwanis, Blue Raven Realty, The Wandering Hermit, Trudy's Treasures, Great Treasures, Cowboy Drug, Platte County Sherriff's Office, Landmark Bar, Verizon, BMO Bank, Bloedorn Lumber, Mighty House, Inc., Banner Health, VFW Post 3558 and Auxiliary, First State Bank, Jay Brockman, Alexis Esthetics, and Wyoming Child and Family Development.
