Two books by local pastor to be used at university for spring semester

WHEATLAND – The Rev. Lincoln Winter, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Wheatland, has authored two books that are being used as textbooks at his Alma Mater, Concordia University Chicago. The books are ”Catechetics: Fixing Confirmation”, and “Teach These Things: Catechesis for the Lutheran Parish.”
Pastor Winter graduated from Concordia in 1994. A fellow student at the same time as Winter, Kirk Clayton, was recently named a professor of Theology at Concordia. He contacted Pastor Winter earlier this year about possibly using his books for a class on teaching the faith. Pastor Winter has donated the books for this class. “I’m happy to be giving something back to the University that meant so much to me. It’s not a building or a new endowment. But it will save our future church workers a few dollars on their student loans. I can’t think of a more worthy effort.”
Pastor Winter will be traveling to Concordia Chicago in February to teach a session of the class. “I’ve learned so much as a pastor serving in Wheatland. I’m excited to take some of that real world common sense back to the classroom.”

Winter was first inspired to write “Catechetics” because the last book about learning how to teach the faith in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod was published over 100 years ago, he felt it was time for an update. He published “Teach These Things” to offer a low-cost solution for small parishes who struggle to afford the subscription teaching services currently available. These materials will be useful to the current Concordia students as to continue through their education at the Seminary and then to their first parish. Winter’s published works also include “Evolution: a Defense Against.” All are available on Amazon.com.
Winter is currently hosting “Bible and a Beer” at Big Dogs’s Lanes every Thursday at 6:30 p.m. located at 101 16th Street. Anyone is welcome to attend and join the discussion and festivities.
Pastor Winter has served at Trinity in Wheatland since 2004. For the last six years, he has also served congregations in Pine Bluffs, and Grover, Colo. As of January 1, he is serving only Wheatland.
“It’s been an adventure serving as a circuit rider for a parish the size of Maryland. But it’s great to be back in Wheatland, serving the congregation and community full time,” he said.
Trinity was chartered in 1913 and moved to its present location on the north end of town in 1995.
