CHUGWATER – The Platte County Sheriff’s Office issued a release last week of a June 22 apprehension drugs from a vehicle pulled over after traveling at a slow rate of speed on the Chugwater service road.
Between the release and court records, it is alleged the driver, Wade Roy Schear, was on a Department of Criminal Investigation watch list. After the sheriff’s deputy stopped the vehicle, which was emitting smoke from the exhaust pipe due to mechanical issues, an open-air K9 search resulted in an alert to the presence of a controlled substance.
A subsequent search revealed 871 grams of methamphetamine, one ounce of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and $811 cash rolled in a rubber band. The individual was read his Miranda rights and taken to Platte County Detention Center where he was later released on a $75,000 bond. DCI is the investigating agency.
Schear’s case has been bound over to eighth judicial district court in Platte County, where he is charged with one count of possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, a felony punishable by a maximum 20 years in jail, $25,000 fine or both; and one count of knowingly or intentionally possessing controlled substance, specifically 73 grams of crystal form methamphetamines, a felony punishable by a maximum seven years in jail, $15,000 fine or both.
It was recorded in court documents officially filed on July 16, Schear’s lawyer issued a demand for evidence from investigating agencies, and further action in the case is pending. The Record-Times reminds readers, Schear is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
