PINE BLUFFS and TORRINGTON – The Bulldogs traveled to Pine Bluffs for the Field Event Extravaganza on Thursday, then traveled to Torrington for the Wiseman Invitational wrapping up the regular season. Later this week they are headed to Buffalo for the 3A Regional Championships. Athletes must earn the top eight in their event, or pre-qualified and enter their event at regionals to qualify for the state championships held in Casper. In the 3A division, Iacovetto is ranked second in the 100m (12.44), third in the 100m hurdles (15.66), third in the 200m (25.83), and fourth in the 400m (1:00.41). Bode Stone has pre-qualified in the shot put and discus, he is currently ranked first in 3A for the shot put with his throw of 52’10”, and third in the discus at 140’9”.
To earn All-Conference, athletes must win their event at regionals. To earn All-State honors, athletes must place first or second place in their event at state competition.
“It is crazy to think that we finished our last regular season meet on Friday May 9th,” Coach Matt Hazen commented on the outdoor track and field season, “We had some great performances and some kids moving around trying some other events in preparation for regionals this coming week in Buffalo. It’s supposed to be a great week weather wise for practice, so we should get some good practices in going into regionals. As always, regionals will test our athletes and push them to their limits, and we are excited to see how they do and how many kids can punch their tickets to state. We are a little shorter in numbers this year for athletes going to regionals, but we should still have multiple athletes make it to state.”
