PLATTE COUNTY — The Platte County Historical Society will host a program celebrating the history and impact of rural public schools on Tuesday, May 28th at the Platte County Library. The free program, presented by Dan Brecht, will begin at 7:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

Dan’s career as an educator began in 1973 at Libbey Elementary School in Wheatland. In 1979 he moved to the mountains where he taught for two years at the rural Riverbridge School in Albany County; returning there again in the early 1990s. He also taught at rural schools in Alaska prior to his retirement from Wheatland Middle School in 2008. Throughout those 35 years he taught students in kindergarten through 8th grade; mostly grades 4, 5 and 6.  Dan will share the history of rural schools and some of his harrowing experiences driving through blinding snow in Albany County!
