WHEATLAND - The American Legion Auxiliary Ora Call unit 10 of Wheatland have sponsored many girls who will go to Girls State to learn how the legislature works in the State of Wyoming.
This year Rory Winter was chosen to represent Wheatland Auxiliary. She was honored with a tea in her honor. Winter is excited to participate in the 2023 Wyoming Girl State in Cheyenne June 4 – 9 at the LCCC campus. According to Winter, she is going to try to become elected as a Senator.
The Auxiliary members filled a sack with items she might need during the week. Girls State is open for girls just as they finish their High School Junior year. There are awards for participation and scholarships to their college they choose.
The Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion were giving poppies for a donation on Saturday before Memorial Day. The High School Honor Students were asked to help. The proceeds are used to send money to the Casper “Healing Waters Fly Fishing” Veterans and to the Cheyenne “Hunting with Heroes” veterans.
“Our goal is to constantly advocate for improved health care for veterans,” Elvira Call, Auxiliary member said. “Rory Winter was one of those who help this past weekend as well of telling last part of the poem ‘In Flanders Field’ to honor the country’s fallen warriors and contribute to the continuing needs of our veterans.”
