Proclamation of Primary & General Elections

Date of Primary Election: August 20, 2024, between the hours of 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM. Candidate Filing: Candidates may file for offices to be elected, or nominated, at the Primary Election between the dates of May 16 and May 31, 2024. For those interested in filing for a federal or state office, please contact the Secretary of State’s Office. For those interested in filing for a county office, you must do so with the Platte County Clerk’s Office. For those interested in filing for a municipal office, you must do so with the Town Clerk of the Town you are seeking candidacy. Independent candidates wishing to submit a petition for nomination must do so by August 26, 2024. All candidates nominated by minor or provisional party convention must be filed by August 19, 2024. All applications are available online at www.plattecountywyoming.com/departments/Elections/CandidateInformation. Offices to be Elected at the Primary
Election: Precinct Committeepersons for a term of two years – File with Platte County Clerk’s Office May 16 – May 31, 2024:
Fourteen (14) Republican Precinct Committeemen, and Fourteen (14) Republican Precinct Committeewomen. Eight (8) Democratic
Precinct Committeemen, and Eight (8) Democratic Precinct Committeewomen. Offices to be nominated at the Primary Election & elected at the General Election: Federal & State Offices – File with Secretary of State’s Office May 16 – May 31, 2024. One (1) United States Senator for a term of six years. One (1) United States Representative for a term of two years. One (1) Wyoming State Senator, Senate District #6, for a term of four years. One (1) Wyoming State Representative, House District #4, for a term of two years. County Offices – File with Platte County Clerk’s Office May 16 – May 31, 2024. One (1) County Commissioner for a term of four years. Municipal Offices – File with Town Clerk of the Town you are seeking candidacy May 16 – May 31, 2024. Two (2) Town of Wheatland Council Members for a term of four years. Two (2) Town of Guernsey Council Members for terms of four years. One (1) Town of Chugwater Mayor for a term of four years. Two (2) Town of Chugwater Council Members for a term of four years. Campaign Finance Reporting: Pursuant to Wyoming State Statute (W.S.) §22-25-106, all campaign committees, Political Action Committees
(PACs) and candidates (whether they are successful or not) shall file a statement of contributions and expenditures between the dates of August 6 and August 13, 2024. Amendments to this report shall be filed no later than 5:00 PM on August 30, 2024. Candidates for federal and state offices must file their reports with the Secretary of State’s Office. Candidates for county and municipal offices must file their reports with the County Clerk’s Office. Those who fail to file a report required by law may be subject to penalties prescribed in W.S. §22-25-108, which includes a fine of $500.00 per day that the report is not filed. Precinct committeepersons are not required to file a campaign finance report pursuant to W.S. §22-25-107(a)(vi). Registering to Vote for the Primary Election: The last day to register to vote in the Primary Election is August 5, 2024. After this date you will need to both register and vote absentee, or you may register and vote at the polls on Election Day, August 20, 2024. Party Affiliation Deadline: As a currently registered voter, the last day to change your party affiliation before the Primary Election is May 15, 2024. Additionally, currently registered voters will not be permitted to change party affiliation at the polls on election day. If you are a new registrant, you will be able to affiliate when registering to vote regardless of date.


Date of General Election: November 5, 2024, between the hours of 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM. Candidate Filing: Candidates filing for judicial retention must do so with the Secretary of State’s Office between May 6, 2024 – August 5, 2024. Candidates filing for special district offices, to include school board trustee, must do so with the Platte County Clerk’s Office between August 7 and August 26, 2024. All applications are available online at www.plattecountywyoming.com/departments/Elections/CandidateInformation. Offices to be Elected at the General Election (in addition to those mentioned above): Federal & State Offices: One (1) President & Vice President of the United States for a term of four years. Judicial Offices Eligible to Seek Retention: Two (2) Justices of the Supreme Court for terms of eight years. Two (2) District Court Judges of the Eighth Judicial District for terms of six years. One (1) Circuit Court
Judge of the Eighth Judicial District for a term of four years. Special District Board of Directors – File with the Platte County Clerk’s Office (no fee) August 7, 2024 – August 26, 2024: Three (3) Trustees of Platte County School District #1 for terms of four years. Three
(3) Trustees of Platte County School District #2 for terms of four years. Two (2) Rural District Supervisors of the Resource Conservation District for terms of four years. Three (3) Trustees of the Senior Citizen Service District for terms of four years. Four (4) Directors of the Hospital District for terms of four years. Two (2) Directors of Fire Distrct 1-F for terms of four years. One (1) Glendo Zone Director of Fire District 2-F for a term of four years. Two (2) Directors of the Antelope Gap Fire District for terms of four years. One (1) Director of the Guernsey Rural Fire District for a term of four years. Three (3) Directors of the Chugwater Cemetery District for terms of four years. One (1) Director of the Chugwater Cemetery District to fill an unexpired term of two years. Two (2) Directors of the Y-O Ranch Improvement & Service District for terms of four years. Ballot Propositions: Tax Questions: Shall Platte County, Wyoming be authorized to continue an additional one percent (1%) lodging tax to be used for local travel and tourism promotion? Constitutional Amendment A: The adoption of this amendment would separate residential real property into its own class of property for purposes of property tax assessments. The amendment would authorize the legislature to create a subclass of owner occupied primary residences. Campaign Finance Reporting: Pursuant to Wyoming State Statute (W.S.) §22-25-106, all campaign committees, Political Action Committees (PACs) and candidates (whether they are successful or not) must file a statement of contributions and expenditures between the dates of October 22 and October 29, 2024. Amendments to this report must be filed no later than 5:00 PM on November 15, 2024. Candidates for federal and state offices must file their reports with the Secretary of State’s Office. Candidates for county, municipal, and school board offices must file their reports with the County Clerk’s Office. Those who fail to file a report required by law may be subject to penalties prescribed in W.S. §22-25-108, which includes a fine of $500.00 per day that the report is not filed. Candidates for special district director, excluding candidates for school district trustee, are not required to file this report pursuant to W.S. §22-29113(a)(iii). Registering to Vote for the General Election: The last day to register to vote in the General Election is October 21, 2024.
After this date you will need to both register and vote absentee, or you may register and vote at the polls on Election Day, November 5, 2024.

Voting Assistance: Any elector who requires assistance to vote because of blindness, disability, or inability to read or write, may be given assistance by a person of the elector’s choice, other than the elector’s employer or agent of that employer or an officer or agent of the elector’s union (W.S. §22-13-113(a)). Absentee Voting: Except for primary election day (August 20, 2024) and general election day (November 5, 2024), a qualified elector may request an absentee ballot. To vote on election day, qualified electors must obtain a ballot at their designated polling location. To request an absentee ballot, you may do so: In person at 800 9th St, Wheatland; By mailing Platte County Clerk, PO Box 728, Wheatland, WY 82201; By calling (307)322-2315; or By emailing pcelection@plattecountywyoming.com.

Identification Required to Vote: Wyoming law require that every voter show acceptable identification at the polls to receive a ballot to vote. A voter must show one of the following forms of identification: a Wyoming driver’s license; a tribal identification card issued by the governing body of the Eastern Shoshone tribe of Wyoming, the northern Arapaho tribe of Wyoming or other federally recognized Indian tribe; a Wyoming identification card; a valid United States passport; a United States military card; a driver’s license or identification card issued by any state or outlying possession of the United States; photo identification issued by the University of Wyoming, a Wyoming community college or a Wyoming public school; a valid Medicare insurance card; a valid Medicaid insurance card; a valid conceal carry permit issued by the State of Wyoming. Voters who are unable to produce acceptable identification will be provided a provisional ballot. Provisional ballots are not counted unless a voter is able to provide acceptable identification to the County Clerk’s Office by 5:00 PM on the day following the election.
