WHEATLAND – Peak High School’s lone senior, Jennifer Pena, was recognized in a brief graduation ceremony during the May 19 Platte County School No. 1 (PCSD No. 1) board meeting.
Peak High School is an alternative high school located on the Wheatland High School campus which helps students make-up credits or advance more quickly through courses to ensure they have the best chance to graduate.
After receiving her diploma, Pena gave a short graduation speech and said, “There’s a lot of people in this room that I invited personally who have made my life a lot better.”
Pena then read a short poem she penned regarding her accomplishment and those who have helped her along the way to ensure she achieved her dream of high school graduation. In her poem, she illustrated how those at the Peak High School made her graduation more than a possibility, they socially and emotionally supported her through her education. She thanked her family and other members of the community who continued to encourage her to complete her high school education.
She was warmly embraced by her family afterwards and expressed her gratitude for reaching her accomplishment.
