WHEATLAND – Funeral services for Patricia Jo “Miss Patty” Kaufman, 77, will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2023, at United Church of Christ in Wheatland, with Pastor Chris Furl officiating. Inurnment will be held in the Wheatland Cemetery.
Patty Jo Kaufman passed away on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023, at Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland.
Patty was born on Tuesday, March 13, 1945, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, the daughter of Patrick and Thurlene (Coxon) Young. Patty was raised in Gering, Nebraska, and graduated from Gering High School in 1963. Following graduation, she attended Western Nebraska Community College and worked for Dr. Barnwell and Dr. Wiley.
On Aug. 27, 1967, Patty married Harvey Kaufman, also of Gering. Harvey and Patty farmed in the Gering Valley following their marriage surrounded by their families. They celebrated their 55th anniversary last summer.
In 1974 they started their family and had three children, Jennifer, Quentin, and Joshua.
In 1984 Harvey and Patty moved their family from the Gering Valley to Wheatland, for the opportunity to farm on the Bard Ranch owned, at that time, by Laramie River Power Station.
Patty stayed home with her children until her youngest child started school and then she started working again, this time at the Wheatland Medical Clinic for Dr. Howshar and Dr. Woods. Patty worked at the clinic for over 20 years and was loved by many members of the community.
Patty retired in 2012 and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and having more time to be outdoors in the summer in her yard and garden.
In early 2019 Harvey retired from farming and Harvey and Patty moved into town to begin their retirement together.
Patty was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Patty is survived by her husband, Harvey; daughter, Jennifer (Rick) Carr; sons, Quentin (Sarah) Kaufman and Josh (Jeannette) Kaufman; and grandchildren, Alexandra, Henry, and Michael Kaufman, Jaylen and Jocelyn Kaufman, and Patrick and Mia Carr.
A memorial fund has been set up at the Platte Valley Bank, P.O. Box 337, Wheatland, Wyoming 82201 in Patty’s honor.
