Owl in the family

A parliament of owls (the name for a group of the species of bird) has drawn attention at Lewis Park in Wheatland. A mating pair has been raising owlets in a tree near the park’s entrance, and Town of Wheatland parks department supervisor Jason Niemi mentioned the owl family to a group of elementary students on Labor Day. The town, as a Tree City USA member, promotes trees within the town to benefit the people, the environment, and as habitat for wildlife. Even after owlets leave the nest, they continue to rely on their parents to teach them skills to survive in the wild. If you find a baby owl on the ground, do not interfere with it – they are still learning and their parents are still feeding and protecting them.
