WHEATLAND – Sandy Dubois celebrated the grand opening of her own small-town café with from-scratch home cooking, dubbed “Messy Fingers,” in Downtown Wheatland on May 24. Dubois has been cooking for various restaurants for 34 years while she raised her kids. “Now it’s time for my dream,” she said.
Her lifelong dream has been to own a small restaurant, just like Messy Fingers, where things aren’t so fancy, but the food is good and very fresh. Messy Fingers serves homemade cheesecake by the slice with a flavor of the week and there are daily specials, posted like clockwork between 7 and 7:30 a.m. on Landmark Bar ‘s Facebook page, or call 307-322-3680 to place your order.
Today marks the 72nd day in business for Dubois, and she says, “It’s been fun and I’m having a blast.”
Messy Fingers serves classic café food, plus wraps, a vegan option, and something special for the kids and seniors. The business is no-smoking and kid friendly, and the building pre-dates the streets in Wheatland, with the first brick laid in 1876, so if the door “sticks,” just give it a hard push. Messy Fingers is open Monday through Thursday, 11-2 a.m. and 4-7 p.m.; Friday from 11-2 a.m. and 4-8 p.m.; Saturday 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.; and closed Sunday except special holidays.
