CHUGWATER – Learning to hand count election ballots is one way to be prepared when a continuity of government plan is required.
In mid-October, 14 area participants met at the Chugwater Community Center to learn a prize-winning hand tallying method developed by Rick Weible from Brookings, South Dakota. Among the participants were the social studies teacher from Prairie View Community School, Daniel Stevens, and one of his eighth-grade civics students, Ulianna Hansen. She is officially the first student in Wyoming to be trained in this hand-counting method.
Trainer Jill Kaufman from Wheatland noted, in addition to tallying political race results, this method can be used for any kind of contest where tallying is required, such as class president or homecoming queen.
