WHEATLAND – The Elizabeth Ramsey Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) celebrated 100 years of promoting historic preservation, education, and patriotism in southeast Wyoming this April 18th. The National Society voted to approve the Elizabeth Ramsey Chapter April 18, 1925 at their annual meeting in Washington, D.C.
The Chapter’s namesake, Elizabeth Ramsey, was a young woman whose father and brothers were with General George Washington at Valley Forge. She corresponded with Martha Washington regularly. In our Chapter history it is noted that when Elizabeth visited Valley Forge, she saw the need for clothing and comfort items. She is reputed to have formed a lady’s aid society to knit caps and mittens for the men of the camp. It is with pride that we continue her work by sending care packages to military personnel and veteran’s facilities.
The National Society was founded October 11, 1890 by an Act of Congress. Our mission is to promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism. The NSDAR is a non-profit, nonpolitical volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to preserving American history, securing America’s future through better education, and promoting patriotism. We are a linage society, you must prove you are descended from a Patriot who served or provided aid to the cause of freedom from British rule.
