Hugh Marion Jenkins, 87, of Wheatland left us to be with the Lord on Monday, May 13, 2024, at his home, one day before his 88th birthday. He was born on Thursday, May 14, 1936, in Lingle, to Sidney and Florence (Hitt) Jenkins where he was the third of ten siblings. Hugh married Naomi “Nip” Dowers on September 2, 1956, and grew their family by five children; Naomi passed away on August 8, 2000. Hugh then married Doris Thompson in Wheatland on August 2, 2002. 

Hugh attended school in Goshen and Platte counties graduating from Chugwater High School in 1954 where he was honored to be selected for Boys’ State and Valedictorian of his class. He and Nip raised five children and cherished many grandchildren throughout their lives in Wheatland. Hugh established his business, Jenkins Auto Body in 1971, running a successful wrecker service for many years, serving the Platte County community. In 2012, he sold the business to his son, Wade Jenkins. Hugh attended church at the First Christian Church for many years, where he served as youth group leader, congregant, and elder. Hugh loved the outdoors and enjoyed elk hunting with his sons and brothers, working with his hands to rebuild autos, boats, and houses. He also enjoyed gardening, raising farm animals, camping, boating, and spending time with his large family. In his younger years, Hugh enjoyed volunteering for the fire department and playing men’s league basketball. During their time together, Hugh and Doris spent time cruising in the Bahamas and Alaska as well as excursions in their motor home.

Hugh left behind wife, Doris Jenkins; children, Suzan Skaar (Thomas), Cindy Shaffer (Dan), Wade Jenkins (Teresa), Jesse Jenkins (Dossanne), and Sheila Wood (Brian); step-children, Jimmy Thompson (Sherry), Sherryl Collard (Ronnie), and Debbie Francis; grandchildren, Broc Skaar, Torey Skaar, Stacia Cooper, Billie Sechler, Joshua Hopfauf, Bethany Jenkins, Whitney Goff, Courtney Read, Kelly Jenkins, Kelsey Stearns, Sarah Zaayman, and Taylor Wood; step-grandchildren, Katrina Torres, Roy Don Shackelford, Amanda White, Jessica Harvey, Trevor Francis, Michelle Francis, Melissa Cole, Laura Martin, and Brittney Collard. Hugh was gifted with 27 great-grandchildren. 

A service will be held in his honor at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, May 24th, 2024, at the First Christian Church in Wheatland, with Pastor Casey Schroeder officiating. Inurnment will be at the Chugwater Cemetery.
