Gregory Land Masie died on Monday, October 16, 2023, at the Cheyenne VA Medical Center at the age of 70.
He was born on Monday, March 23, 1953, in Rennerdale, Pennsylvania to Margaret Anne (Land) Masie and James Calvin Masie. Following graduation from Boardman High School in Boardman, Ohio, Greg worked at the General Motors assembly plant in Lordstown, Ohio, until joining the United States Navy in 1973 and serving aboard the USS Horne DLG-30. In 1977 he met and married his wife, Elizabeth, while stationed at Long Beach, California. Following his honorable discharge, he worked for Southern California Edison, Huntington Beach Station until moving to Wheatland in 1979 where he began working for Basin Electric Power Cooperative; he worked for Basin for thirty-nine years.
Greg served as the President/Business Manager of IBEW 612 for nine years. He retired from Basin Electric in 2018 having worked as a Plant Systems Operator and a Control Room Operator; he finished his career as a Main Plant Operations Trainer.
Although Greg enjoyed hunting, fishing, and wood carving, his passion was his family. He instilled a strong work ethic in his children, and his steady demeanor always brought a sense of calm to the household. He was ever-present to help with any projects, whether for home, church, or school. He was very witty, had a wry sense of humor, loved practical jokes and was a trivia master. He was greatly loved and will be missed.
Greg is survived by his wife of 46 years, Elizabeth Weems Masie; children, Gregory (Katie), Sarah Lockman (Gary), Alyssa Vosburg (Cody), Joshua, Bethany, and Josiah; mother, Margaret Masie; brother, George Masie (Sandy); as well as his grandchildren, Justus, Noah, and Hannah Nelson, Audrey and Tanner Masie, and Masie and Cooper Vosburg; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by daughter, Leigh Alicia; father, James Masie; and brothers, Jim and Tom Masie.
A private family memorial will be held Saturday, November 11, 2023, with Pastor Phil Benson officiating and a Celebration of Life Open House will be held on Sunday, November 12, 2023 from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. at 10th Street Social, Wheatland, Wyoming.
