PLATTE COUNTY – Since 1917 it has been an annual tradition across the country to support local Girl Scout troops by purchasing cookies in the spring. Local troops in Wheatland, Chugwater, and Guernsey, have been set up around the county to sell cookies.
Selling the cookies give the scouts experience of setting goals, making decisions, managing money, working with customers and many other useful life skills. One of the most popular classic cookies are the Thin Mints, which have been around since 1939, with the Caramel DeLites a close second. There are nine cookie flavors and even a gluten / allergy free Caramel Chocolate Chip.
All revenue earned by the cookie sales after the baker is paid stay with the troop which sold the cookies, and the girl scouts choose how to spend the money for their programs throughout the year, including projects that benefit their communities. Guernsey Troop 1472 already has plans to purchase flowers for the permanent flowerpots along main street in Guernsey.
