Gary Charles Twiford

Gary Charles Twiford passed from this life on October 15, 2023.  He was born July 7, 1947, the third son of Robert and Mildred (Moran) Twiford of Glendo.  He grew up on the family ranch in the Horseshoe Valley below Laramie Peak.

Gary attended school in Glendo, excelling in football and wrestling.  He also participated in high school rodeo, riding bareback broncos and was a state champion bull rider.  He graduated from Glendo High School in 1965, and attended Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado, and the University of Wyoming.

In 1966 Gary married Connie Bowen of Wheatland.  To this union was born a daughter, Kerri, and a son, Robert.  Following their divorce, Gary married Terri Ciberay of Denver, Colorado.  Children Dwain, Kallie Jean, and Milo were added to the family.

Gary was quiet and unassuming, handsome, and charismatic.  But it was his kindness that earned him a place in the hearts of many friends, both human and four-legged.

He had a deep connection with animals, cattle, dogs, even birds. But his deepest love was for horses.    He raised horses, trained horses, and raced horses.  He just loved spending time with horses. Quiet and patient, it seemed that he could relate on a deeper level with horses.  He also was an excellent farrier. A post from his Facebook page sums it up: “People think I am crazy for talking to my horses.  What am I supposed to do when they ask me questions?  Ignore them?”

Gary, as his father before him was a man of many hats.  He was very talented and could do anything he took on. He just seemed to know how to do any job.  Some of the jobs he had ranged from measuring snowpack in the Snowy Range, construction equipment operator, and ranching.  He worked building houses on both coasts, but always came home to Wyoming.  He did freelance carpentry and held several maintenance positions, including a few years at the Wyoming Women’s Prison in Lusk as a maintenance supervisor.

Preceded in death by his father Robert, mother Mildred, and an infant brother, Gregory, Gary is survived by daughters Kerri (Todd) Mueller and Kallie Gorter, and sons Robert Twiford, Dwain Twiford, and Milo Twiford, eight grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren, along with brothers Jim (Jenne), Jack (Stanetta), Calvin (Kathy), and sister Barbara (Bruce) Kilmer.  He is also survived by his special friend Kim Myers who blessed his later years.

Gary loved his family to the depths of his being.  He also had a deep belief in God and has now gone to meet Him.  Memorial services will be held at a later date.
