Construction slows traffic across county

PLATTE COUNTY – Wyoming Department of Transportation has a construction project underway on State Highway 320, and travelers are warned to plan for delays up to 20 minutes. The project will re-surface the entire highway from US 26 to Swanson Road in Wheatland. Over the past week, crews have been milling off one inch of the surface to remove old, deteriorated material. That process is estimated to be completed by Monday.
Project manager Tim Rasnake said replacement of Highway 320 began Aug. 12, by stripping the topsoil from the edge of the roadway with a blade. The millings from the surface have been placed along the shoulder, compacted, and shaped to support the edge of the new pavement layer. When paving is completed, the topsoil will be peeled back and reseeded.
Paving operations are estimated to begin around Aug. 26 and continue “well into mid-September,” Rasnake said.
Signs on the project state a completion date in 2025, which is for the entire scope of the project, including replacing all the fencing (which will commence after paving is complete) and chip sealing of the road (which will begin sometime in the spring).
Travelers can also expect delays if traveling South Guernsey Road through Thursday. The Platte County Road and Bridge Department is currently chip sealing South Guernsey Road from Trail Ruts Golf Course to Tank Farm Road.
