CHUGWATER – Youths in Chugwater were treated to an end-of-summer fun day in the water, hosted by the Chugwater library with its summer reading program. There were 850 water balloons, which were exhausted in approximately 10 minutes once the children were given the “go” signal. Then they got creative with water guns and makeshift shields. They were then treated to snacks and a drink.
The theme for the summer reading program in the Platte County Library system was “Adventure Begins at Your Library.” The Chugwater Water Wars fun day was the third hosted by the library system across the county.
The Chugwater library has had more generous donations from the community and was able to trade out many of the books in stock this summer. There is even a NCIS series on DVD that was recently donated that is available to rent.
“The people in Chugwater are very good about donating. There is a very varied genre, especially for a small town,” said one patron last week.
The library also has a book club that meets every Wednesday. Currently the group is reading Sarah’s Key by Tatiana de Rosnay. New participants are always welcome.
